Oral Herpes – How to Get Rid of the Sores + Find a Cure

Herpes is very common. Typically when you hear herpes, you automatically think of the sexually transmitted infection. However, there’s another type of herpes that exists that can also cause the same type of symptoms; painful, itching and burning sores, only on the mouth or lips.

Oral Herpes, or Herpes Simplex 1 is the same type of virus that causes genital herpes, only it affects the mouth instead. Mouth herpes, while very common, is less likely to be diagnosed because the symptoms often occur during a cold or illness where one would expect it. When you see a sore on your genitals, this is something that sparks concern in most people. Because mouth sores are more common, some people write them off as a random occurrence and don’t draw the connection to it being lip herpes.

Oral (Mouth) Herpes

Not every cold sore indicates that you have mouth herpes. This is why people are less likely to head into their doctors office at the site of it. Instead, they ride out the storm and just wait for the symptoms to go away.

While this might seem like a fine way to deal with it, this doesn’t eliminate the real danger behind herpes- which is spreading it. You can’t take steps in preventing the virus from spreading if you don’t know that you have it in the first place.

How Can Oral (Lip) Herpes be Spread?

Herpes is transmitted by skin to skin contact. If you have an open sore and it touches an area where the herpes virus can attach to, then it will likely pass on. You can spread herpes by sharing the same toothbrush or eating utensils, or by kissing someone who has oral herpes.

Many fail to realize that the two types of herpes can be cross-transmitted. For example, if you have lip herpes and give oral sex to someone, you can cause them to get genital herpes. Or, if you give oral sex to someone who has genital herpes, they can give you mouth herpes.

What’s very dangerous is that even though herpes is most easily spread when someone is having an outbreak, it can be transmitted when someone isn’t having any apparent symptoms at all. There are a growing number of people who don’t realize that they have herpes and are spreading it unknowingly from person to person. The virus can lie dormant without any visible symptoms forever, though it’s typical to get at least one outbreak.

How to Find Out If You Have Oral Herpes?

If you see a cold sore on your mouth, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have herpes. However, it may indicate it. Outbreaks are often triggered by sickness, stress, or environmental factors. If you notice that you always get a cold sore when you’re sick, or when you are stressed out, you can count on getting a lip sore, then there is a very good chance that you have HSV-1.  Also, if you notice that you get multiple sores rather than one at a time, this is a pretty definitive indicator that you are carrying the virus.

The best way to find out if you have herpes or not is to see your doctor. Usually, a doctor can take a look at the area in question and determine whether or not you have herpes. It’s a topical virus, and doctors are trained to recognize it.  For those who suspect they have the virus but haven’t had an outbreak, a blood test may be done. This usually happens when someone is made aware that they came into contact with the virus unknowingly.

Lip Herpes Treatment

Sometimes, an outbreak of lip herpes may be minor and you won’t need to do anything out of the ordinary. However, depending on how your body reacts to the virus, you may have severe symptoms that require you to seek treatment.

There are a number of over the counter treatments that you can find in your pharmacy. This comes in the form of topical creams and medicated ointments. Before you apply anything to your lips or mouth, be sure you take note of the ingredients. If you have any kind of allergy to medications or chemicals, consult your pharmacist before applying.

While over the counter creams can be helpful, there may be times that you need something a little bit stronger. In this case, you can consult your doctor who may be able to give you prescription strength medications. Since you’re getting the medication from your doctor, they will know your allergies and be able to give you something safe.

Natural Herpes Oral Treatments

Over the counter or prescription creams or medications are usually what people go for when treating their lip herpes. It only makes sense since relief from their symptoms is what they’re looking for. What people fail to take into consideration is that sometimes medications can cause more damage than good to the body.

The goal of any treatment is the same: to eliminate the symptoms. When someone is in the middle of a severe outbreak, the symptoms can be more than they can handle. Usually, lip herpes is treated with a topical cream or ointment. However, if you put a cream on your face that has side effects that include excess burning or itching – is it worth it when those are the precise symptoms that you’re trying to eliminate?

There are a number of natural treatments that you can apply to your lip herpes sores that can give you relief without the risk of skin irritation that comes with topical prescription creams. Aloe Vera is a well know anti-inflammatory treatment. You may have heard of it being used on sunburn. It’s also effective on herpes sores. You may also consider using a tea bag, or olive oil both of which have healing properties that have been shown to be effective in treating oral herpes.

Herpes Mouth Treatment vs Oral Herpes (Mouth) Cure

Most people search endlessly for a herpes treatment because they don’t think that a cure is available. We’re lead to believe that once we get herpes, it’s something that we’ll have to struggle with over a lifetime. We are given lectures and speeches about how we’re not the only ones with the virus and are expected to accept that we can live with herpes, we’ll just have to manage the symptoms. This is true. Doctors can indeed give us tools to temporarily relieve symptoms, but it’s just that: temporary. If the virus is in your body, then the outbreaks will continue. The symptoms will return. The pain will come back over and over again. You always have the risk of spreading the virus. Nothing will change.

If you like the unexpected outbreaks, the painful sores, the itching and the burning, and the never-ending risk of spreading the virus to others, then you don’t have to go any further. You’re on your way to a lifetime of lip herpes. You can treat it forever.

But if you’re tired of the vicious cycle of getting a herpes outbreak, treating the symptoms, and getting temporary relief just to suffer all over again, then it’s time that you made a change in your treatment plan.

Treatment is A Temporary Fix. A Cure is Permanent Solution!
